General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The board regularly receives questions on the application of the GDPR rules. In the Internal Rules, you will find the most important rights and obligations

The BCF’s IT system contains 2 files containing personal data

  • the “signaletique” file. This is used for internal operations and is not made available to anyone, including cultural federations and leagues. This file contains all the data we have on you. Cultural federations and leagues may request information for their members.
  • the “player” file: the player file contains all the data needed to make matches. It is used by the SWAR programme. The file is accessible to members via the protected area of the website.

What happens if someone asks to be removed from the FRBE’s “database” under GDPR legislation?

  • The person is deleted from the “descriptive” file. However, the BCF has backups of the descriptive file, which may still contain the person’s data. To maintain the integrity of these backups, personal data cannot be deleted from the backups.
  • the person is not deleted from the “player” file but is set to inactive. The FRBE continues to need player data because otherwise there will be inconsistency in elo processing and because members have the right to know who their opponents were in games already played. The BCF has the right to keep the player’s data, because apart from the surname, first name and year of birth, all other data are created by the BCF itself.
