Daniel Dardha of KSK Rochade became European Vice-Champion.

From November 7 to 20, 2024, the European Individual Chess Championship took place in the picturesque town of Petrovac, Montenegro. This prestigious tournament brought together the best chess players in Europe (213 participants) who competed for the coveted title of European Champion.

The European Championship was played according to the 11-round Swiss system. The 2024 European Individual Chess Championship is a qualifying event for the 2025 FIDE World Championships. The new European Champion was chosen after an exciting final.

In the final round of the 2024 European Individual Chess Championship, an exciting duel took place between Grandmaster Aleksandar Indjic of Serbia and Grandmaster Daniel Dardha of KSK Rochade Eupen. Both players had been undefeated throughout the tournament and entered the decisive match undefeated.

Daniel Dardha showed his fighting spirit from the start of this decisive match by taking the initiative. With precise moves and bold attacks, he put his Serbian opponent under pressure. Aleksandar Indjic, however, proved his class by skillfully defending against the threats.

Indjic entered the match half a point behind, knowing that a draw would be enough to secure the European title. While Dardha went all out, Indjic remained calm and seized every opportunity to stabilize his position. Despite Dardha’s tireless attempts to turn the game in his favor, Indjic did not manage to deliver a decisive blow. After an intense struggle, the game ultimately ended in a draw.

With this result, Aleksandar Indjic was crowned the new European Champion. Daniel Dardha, however, delivered an exceptional performance throughout the tournament and convinced everyone that he is one of Europe’s strongest players. GM Aleksandar Indjic (SRB, 2623) was the sole winner. GM Daniel Dardha (BEL, 2606) secured second place with 8.5/11 points, and GM Frederik Svane (GER, 2654) came in third.
