ANTWERP – Former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov is returning to Antwerp this autumn as the highlight of an extensive chess week organized by Your Next Move from October 11 to 29. The event features a high-profile keynote on artificial intelligence, simultaneous matches, and a live show by prominent chess influencer GothamChess, all aimed at introducing chess to a wider audience and supporting Belgian talent.
The program officially begins on October 19 at the Vestar congress center, where Kasparov will deliver a keynote titled “Exploring the Future of AI and Human Intelligence.” Drawing on his historic matches against IBM’s Deep Blue in the 1990s, Kasparov will share his insights into the decades-long evolution of human and artificial minds.
On October 21, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA) will host two simultaneous exhibitions. Kasparov and British Grandmaster Nigel Short will face a selection of young players, entrepreneurs, and politicians. Young participants can qualify during pre-selection rounds on October 11 at DPG Media.
Closing the week on October 29 at Play Zuid, popular American creator Levy Rozman (GothamChess) will host an interactive live show in partnership with Chess.com, combining chess analysis and audience interaction.
“Our dream is to celebrate a Belgian World Champion by 2035,” says Inge Geerdens, co-founder of Your Next Move. “It is ambitious, but great achievements always start with the decision to make the first move.”
