Update (3.11.2025)
The tournament is now half-way, and today is a rest day.
The start was not easy, but the performance of the Belgian youth improved with every round, and just before the break, in the 5th round, we grabbed 10 of the 17 points at stake. The snapshot below shows the overall summary of Team Belgium after round 5.

Top rating scorers are Lou (G12, +56 rating points), Hansi (U12, +57) and Benoit (U14, +43). Top points scorer is Hillel (U12) with 3.5/5.
Last night, after round 5, we had a relaxing Team Belgium evening event, with a nice 7-round blitz tournament, where all members of the Belgian delegation could participate. Many thanks to Mieke, Walter and Geert, for the practical arrangements (and ensuring the rule of chess laws;) ), Benoit and his mother, Cecile, for the software support, as well as to the Turkish delegation for kindly offering us their analysis room for the entire evening, and to the Montenegro Chess Federation, for providing us the logistics to run the tournament (boards and chess sets, clocks). It was fun and, as some would say, pictures (below) spoke for themselves.

Today (3.11) is a rest day. While the weather today (only today!) reminds us a bit of the one at home, there are still options – a day trip to the bay of Kotor (for the daring), visiting the old town of Budva (for the prudent), playing blitz (2 open tournaments organized by the EYCC – for the warrior) or simply recharging and getting ready for tomorrow’s battles (for the rest;) ) . One way or another, everyone is looking forward to the next rounds!

The Belgian delegation is here!
17 players, boys and girls, all age categories from U08/G08 to U18/G18 will play the European Youth Chess Championship in Budva, Montenegro. Returning or newcomers, they will all strive for the best under Belgium’s flag.

Most of the players, coaches and accompanying persons arrived yesterday (the 28th), via Podgorica, Tivar or Dubrovnik airports, in the (still sunny) beautiful town of Budva, on the eastern Adriatic coast.
The technical meeting took place this morning (Oct 29th), and the debriefing followed soon after, in the parc of the Slovenska Plaza hotel.

The rounds will be played as of today (round 1), starting at 14:00 hrs (CET) each day until Nov, 7th (round 9) and with a break day on Nov. 3rd.
The competition results can be followed on the chess-results website while some of the games are broadcasted live on lichess.
Let’s wish them all success!
