The RBCF is looking for candidates to host the Belgian Youth Championships in 2027, 2028 and 2029.
On the one hand, the championship serves as a selection tournament for the European and World Youth Championships. On the other hand, the aim is to give as many children as possible a taste of a tournament with nine rounds and a classic pace spread over several consecutive days. Consequently, the championship may turn into a true chess feast for the youngsters. Games will be played in seven age categories (from U8 to U20), unless there would be too few participants for a particular category.
Normally, the championship falls during the Flemish spring break. Specifically, it would cover the period from 6 February – 14 February 2027, from 26 February – 5 March 2028 and from 10 February – 18 February 2029.
However, these dates are subject to change, as the holiday periods in French-speaking schools are not yet known. Possibly, as in 2024, the tournament will have to be organised at a different time (Ascension) and with a different formula (7 rounds without peripheral activities).
Who will organise the tournament in 2027, 2028 and 2029?
The candidate organiser draws up a detailed dossier in which he accurately describes the location (pros and cons of the accessibility, parking infrastructure, sleeping and eating facilities in the vicinity, rooms and other spaces available for the games, analyses, peripheral activities, etc.). Pictures and video material can help.
The candidate organiser also proposes a programme, with or without ideas for peripheral activities and mentions how the organising team will be composed (one club, different clubs working together…).
If the dates have to be changed for the above reason, the selected organiser remains the first choice, but he can also renounce the organisation that year if he cannot manage to organise it at another period for practical reasons.
The dossier will be sent to info@frbe-kbsb-ksb.be by September 30, 2025 at the latest. The applications are then reviewed and analysed (if necessary, a date can be agreed to view the venues). The aim is for the decision to be announced, normally at the end of the year (General Assembly) and at the latest during the next Belgian Youth Championship 2026 (22/02/2026).
