In 2026, the Royal Belgian Chess Federation is committed to significantly expanding its online presence and digital community. With a renewed focus on community building and e-sports, we aim to foster connection, engagement, and the modernization of the Belgian chess landscape.

Our goal is clear: to create an active, inclusive, and accessible online chess community that brings together players from across Belgium.

A Centralized online chess community

A cornerstone of this year’s strategy is the establishment of an official online community for Belgian chess players. To achieve this, we are launching:

  • A dedicated Belgian Chess.com community
  • An official Royal Belgian Chess Federation Discord server

This community is designed to become the central digital hub where players can connect, share games, and grow together.

Online activities

To ensure continuity and engagement, we will host a fixed weekly online chess tournament. This will provide a consistent rhythm and a low-barrier entry point for new members.

In addition to tournaments, we will provide space for further initiatives such as:

  • Guest lectures featuring top players, coaches, or experts.
  • Online streams and match analyses.
  • Community formats like “Guess the Elo” and other interactive concepts.

The specific programming will remain flexible, allowing us to adapt to the needs, interests, and enthusiasm of the community.

Listening to the Community

A core principle of this action plan is that the community itself helps shape its direction. Through feedback, polls, and direct interaction, we will continuously evaluate which initiatives are successful and where adjustments are needed. Quality and engagement will always take priority over quantity.

Developing E-sports

Alongside recreational online activities, we are working on further developing a Belgian e-sports structure within the world of chess.
