Data leak – everyone beware of suspicious messages

The board of K.B.S.B. v.z.w. established during the course of the day on Saturday 26 September that a series of confidential data managed by the association had been leaked to a third party. The identity of the third party could not be determined, but the fact is that the data is offered for sale by this party.

After thorough analysis, the following data is of a confidential nature:

• Mobile phone numbers and e-mail addresses of all board members of a club for which this information is in the KBSB database
• The bank account numbers (IBAN) of all clubs that have financial transactions with KBSB
• The names of the directors of the club

The K.B.S.B. regrets that this leak was unprecedented at the board and took immediate action on Saturday to close the leak, so that as soon as possible, within 2 hours after we became aware of it, there was no longer any possibility of access to this confidential data for parties who have no rights to it.

The board of KBSB therefore calls on everyone to be extra vigilant for suspicious messages (fishing) via e-mail or by telephone to prevent the third party from gaining access to financial transactions..
