Developing a Belgian “Class’Échecs”: In collaboration with Thomas More and dotNET Lab

We are pleased to share an exciting new partnership aimed at bringing structured chess education to Belgian schools. This semester, the Royal Belgian Chess Federation is teaming up with dotNet lab and Thomas More (Geel campus) to work on a practical digital project that can support teachers in the classroom.

Inspiration: The Class’Échecs Initiative

In France, the Class’Échecs platform (classechecs.ffechecs.fr) has been developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Education to assist primary school teachers who wish to introduce chess to their pupils but lack the necessary resources or volunteers. The platform provides free access to 30 structured lessons – complete with instructional videos, teacher guides, and student exercises – and currently supports thousands of educators.

Project Roadmap

The collaboration follows a structured path over the course of the coming semester to ensure steady progress:

• Kick-off: The project begins with a general introduction to the course assignments, followed by an in-depth session where the federation outlines the broader context and goals for the students.
• Development & Technical Guidance: As students begin building the platform, technical support sessions led by the dotNET lab team help guide development and address architectural challenges.
• Milestones: The project features an intermediate demonstration where students share their progress and gather feedback from all involved parties.
• Final Showcase: The semester concludes with a final demonstration (18.12), where the students present their work.
