Dive into the magic of chess: kings, queens and rooks await you!

Sunday, April 27, is Flemish Heritage Day. The theme this year is “Game On,” the spotlight is on sports and games. Neighborhood Center Kerklommer De Haan is making it an afternoon (2-7 p.m.) around the game of chess. Participation is free. Registration is not required.

• Novice chess players can turn to experienced chess instructor Hugo Roman for the basics and first strategies in this ancient but ever-fascinating board game. They also make their first moves right away.
• Experienced chess players can have a game against other practiced chess players in the chess hall.
• Non-chess players are expected on the sun terrace or – in bad weather – the meeting room of Villa Kerklommer.

And for those who just can’t get enough: a small themed exhibition on the history of chess is running.
