ECU2030 Program: Development Projects & Federation Support

Steven Bellens     27.06.2026

The ECU2030 team has introduced the Program of Development Projects & Federation Support, a practical initiative designed
to strengthen European national chess federations. A combined €200,000 fund will support social chess, training,
and education, alongside financial backing for historic regional events. To ease administrative tasks, federations will receive a
toolkit containing project templates, alongside regular mentoring to turn ideas into fundable project plans. The program
will also share a proven digital blueprint based on successful EU-funded models to help federations attract public funding.
Additionally, open talent pathways and structured trainings will ensure players can excel without geographical or budgetary barriers.
Built on a “federations-first” model, this initiative guarantees that development directly impacts chess across Europe.
