Category C Arbiter Training – FEFB (January-March 2026)

The FEFB is pleased to announce the organization of a training session for obtaining the title of Category C Arbiter. This comprehensive training, combining theory and practice, will take place in person in Gosselies and will be led by an experienced instructor.

• Location: Rue de l’Hôtel Saint Jacques 5, 6041 Gosselies.
• Instructor: Timothé Scaillet, FIDE Arbiter (FA).

• Exam: Saturday, March 21, 2026 (Duration: 2 x 2 hours).

Training Program

The curriculum complies with FRBE guidelines and totals over 15 hours of instruction (80% attendance is required to be eligible for the exam):

• Rules of the Game: 10 hours.
• Use of Electronic Clocks: 2 hours.
• Pairings (Swiss System, use of Swar software, etc.): 8 hours.
• Tie-breaking Systems: 4 hours.
• Practical Exercises: Integrated throughout the entire duration of the training.

Exam Procedures

To pass, candidates must meet the following two conditions:

1. Eliminatory Questions: Correctly answer the 5 mandatory “standard” questions (any error on these questions results in failure).
2. Overall Score: Achieve a minimum of 35/50 (i.e., 70% of the points).

Point Distribution (50 total):

• 25 points on the rules of the game.
• 10 points on tie-breaking and pairing systems.
• 10 points for practical evaluation (room preparation, clock setting, management of illegal moves).
• 5 points for “daily work” (attitude, participation, assignments).

Note: The exam will be submitted to the CAI for validation, and copies will be graded anonymously by two members of the committee.
