It is evident that experts in a particular field can make decisions faster and more accurately, but how the brain precisely organizes their expertise was unknown until now. Through a study of chess players, researchers from KU Leuven show that expertise is not only a matter of more knowledge, but also results in a different way of thinking. The results, published in Nature Communications, contribute to a better understanding of how learning works and why experts view complex situations differently.
