Preschool Chess – with Christel Minne

New school year, new inspiration!

We are delighted to introduce Christel Minne: a passionate preschool teacher from Bruges who started a chess adventure in her own school more than 15 years ago. What began as a search for playful and suitable teaching materials for preschoolers grew into a unique method and a beautiful picture book with accompanying didactic guide.

Later I’ll Be Queen takes children and their supervisors into the fascinating world of chess. Don’t expect dry rules, but a sparkling story in rhyme full of colorful illustrations, mini-games, practical tips and creative activities including kinesthetic learning. Dressed as king or queen and walking on a life-size chessboard with black and white squares, participants discover all the basic rules. This makes chess suddenly accessible for children from four years old, but also for their parents, many teachers and coaches who want to introduce the game in a playful way.

Thanks to the support of Belgian publisher Daniël Vanheirzeele (Thinkers Publishing, internationally known for their high-quality chess publications), Later I’ll Be Queen received a particularly refined form. The picture book was printed in a beautiful format on sturdy, quality paper with attention to detail and durability. Meanwhile, the English translation has also appeared, making this work on its way to gaining recognition not only locally but internationally.

Because chess at school is becoming increasingly popular, Christel now regularly gives training courses and workshops for teachers and chess trainers and supports schools that want to get started with chess. Christel also seizes initiatives such as Heritage or Culture Days, educational fairs and chess events to make her project known. Her mission? To inspire and train adults, so that many more children can discover the magic of chess.
