Timur Turlov: My candidacy for President of FIDE

Dear FIDE member federations,

I am writing to share with you that I am standing for the election as President of FIDE, together with five-time world champion Vishwanathan Anand, as candidate for Deputy President.

Under the motto “Moving Chess Forward. Together”, our joint ticket offers continuity with a new level of practical effectiveness. Out goal is to make FIDE stronger, more stable, more efficient – a truly global institution that treats every Member Federation equally and delivers real results for the entire chess community.

Throughout my professional career, I have worked to build international organisations and partnerships based on long-term value, strategical thinking, transparent and responsible governance, and sustainable growth.

As President of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, together with my team, we have digitalised the organisation, introduced chess to more than 1,5000 schools reaching over 60,000 children, and built a sustainable funding model. As the President of the International School Chess Federation, we have brought conferences and events to different parts of the world and partnered with national and international organisations. As a Founder and CEO of Freedom Holding Corp., a leading international business, we became FIDE’s long-term strategical partners.

As FIDE President, I will have the following priorities:

• Build a strong, global institution that is united, independent, transparent and respected around the world.
• Develop digital infrastructure that helps Member Federations organise and manage their work more effectively, improve communication and have greater access to services and resources.
• Strengthen FIDE’s finances, enabling it to invest more in development programmes, competitions, education and support for Member Federations.
• Empower all Member Federations by ensuring an equal voice and equal access to FIDE’s opportunities and resources, regardless of size, geographical location or capacity.
• Raise the standards for the organisation and conduct of all chess events run by FIDE, provide greater prizes and more opportunities for players to take part in competitions and have access to educational materials and coaching.

Over the coming weeks, I will share more details about my programme and objectives. My priority will be to listen as much as to speak. Every federation faces different opportunities and different challenges, and I believe the best ideas come from listening and dialogue.
