Baarle-Nassau / Baarle-Hertog, the most fascinating village in the world, has a new and unique attraction: a chess table where the border runs right across the board!
In times of war and fear, the enclave community of Baarle-Hertog-Nassau shows that residents of two different countries can indeed live together peacefully. And how!
We are proud to invite you to the opening of a special cross-border initiative: on Wednesday, April 23, a chess table will be unveiled in Baarle that is literally on the border between Belgium and the Netherlands.
The official opening will be performed by the mayors of Baarle-Hertog and Baarle-Nassau, followed by a symbolic chess match between two titleholders: WGM Anne Haast (female grandmaster, NL) and FM Ruben Akhayan (FIDE master, BE).
Attached please find the full press release. For questions or additional information, please contact us.
We hope to welcome you to our unique enclave congregation on April 23.
P.S. The Baarle Cultural Center garden and parking lot are both accessible via the Molenbaan.
Sincerely,
Simon Jansen & Jurgen Schaerlaeckens
