General Assembly meeting takes place Saturday December 5th & survey results

Steven Bellens     19.08.2026

This is a save the date announcement. This year’s General Assembly meeting will take place Saturday December 5th, 2026. The meeting will take place at the head office of the RBCF (Brussels). More information will follow in the weeks before the General Assembly.

General Assembly survey feedback

We asked Belgian chess clubs about their preferences and concerns regarding the timing and organisation of the General Assembly of the Royal Belgian Chess Federation. We received feedback from 43 clubs (multiple answers were possible).

The responses show that there is no single date or time that works ideally for everyone, but several clear trends emerged:

  • A weekday evening (18:00–22:00) is the most popular option.
  • Saturday afternoon (14:00–18:00) follows very closely and remains a suitable time for many clubs.
  • Other time slots receive considerably less support.
  • Online participation is clearly appreciated, particularly by clubs that have to travel longer distances.
  • Several clubs point out that the duration of the meeting is an important concern. They feel that too much time is spent on practical matters, meaning that important substantive topics are only discussed later in the meeting.
  • The starting time also matters: some clubs prefer a start from 19:00 onwards, while at least one club explicitly indicates a preference not to start before 20:30.
  • The planning should also take into account club activities, competitions and other weekend commitments.

Beyond the choice of date and time, a broader message emerged: clubs want the General Assembly to be as accessible, efficient and substantively relevant as possible.

We thank all clubs that completed the survey for their input. This feedback will be taken into account in the further planning and organisation of future General Assemblies.
