The 7th SIV Chess Camp 2024 with more than 200 children and 26 chess coaches was a great success, full of learning, laughter and unforgettable adventures. During the week, we enjoyed a perfect mix of intensive chess sessions and exciting activities.
Each day began with inspiring chess lessons taught by our experienced monitors. Thanks to the large group, we were able to create 18 homogeneous chess groups, allowing both beginners and experienced chess champions to learn new strategies and techniques. The children’s enthusiasm was contagious and their progress impressive. Daily tournaments provided the perfect opportunity to put what they had learned into practice and enjoy our sport of chess together.
In addition to the chess activities, the camp was full of adventurous and fun trips. One of the highlights was our visit to the Action Park in Kiewit, where participants had fun on ropes courses, caving boxes and water obstacles. Later in the week, a trip to Aqualibi provided an afternoon of water fun and excitement on the slides and in the wave pool.
On the days when there was no outing, we provided fun entertainment activities on the camp grounds. Classics such as Bumper Ball, Archery Tag and various team games provided a lot of fun and cooperation. There were also sports activities such as field hockey and soccer, and participants could enjoy relaxing evenings in the recreation room or with some exciting blitz games. Watching European Cup soccer games together in the large cinema hall was also another great success.
The camp culminated with the big chess tournament on the last day. The participants, assembled across teaching groups, competed diligently and showed off their chess skills. We heard from several parents that the ride home was very quiet: enthusiastically recounting all the adventures and then falling asleep in the back seat anyway. Thank you to the sponsors (including this year the Belgian Chess Federation!) for all the support, the clubs for lending equipment, all the parents for the trust and all the monitors for your incredible efforts!
Next year, fewer places will be available, so we fear a long waiting list. Currently, 4/5ths of the places for 2025 are already taken. Register now for 2025 via this link and don’t miss out on this amazing adventure! We look forward to welcoming you (again) next year.
See you next year!
