Swar v7.02 released – new tournament files incompatible with older SWAR versions

On the SWAR results page, SWAR v7.02 is released. This blog post raises awareness on the fact that SWAR v7 allows to open and save older tournament files, but tournament files created with v7 are incompatible with pre-V7 software. Summarizing:

• SWAR v7 can open, edit and save old and new tournament files (after v6.50)
• SWAR v6 or earlier versions cannot handle tournament files created or saved by SWAR v7

Release notes Swar Release FRBE-KBSB v7.02 (2026/07/23)

• NEW: This new version has been generated to no longer use national ELO ratings. It is fully compatible. The Swar menu has been adjusted accordingly. A total of 17 files have been modified.
• Removal of national ELO in favor of FIDE ELO
• Removal of the Belgian ELO file
• Removal of “We” and “Win” from the player profile
• Removal of “We” and “Win” from the HTML file
• Printing: Removal of direct printing (PRINT)
• Bucholtz: Adjustment in the calculation of Bucholtz and Bucholtz Cut-1 (see FIDE C07-TieBreak Regulation of 20260301)
• Classification: Correction of the Swiss classification when there are multiple categories but no separate classifications. json : add missing data
• Dates : The automatic calculation of playing dates for tournament rounds is incorrect for the ‘Double American’ system, while the calculation is correct for the ‘Double Swiss’ and ‘Double Round Robin’ systems.
• Date of Birth: The dates of birth are now fully displayed if the player does not have a FIDE affiliation, so that it is possible to correctly affiliate the player with FIDE. To update this date of birth, simply go to the ‘Players’ menu, ‘Update’, and click on ‘All’, and all data will be updated, even his Elo, club number, and federation.
• Table: Tournoi.FirstTable (the board number of the player with the lowest rank) may not be ‘0’, but must be at least ‘1’. JaVaFo: FIDE pairing module: a BYE player must be indicated with ‘U’ (Unplayed) even if it has been set to award them only ½ point. In the past, a ½ point Bye was indicated with ‘=’, which actually meant absent with ½ point; therefore, the JaVaFo pairing module could still mark that player as a Bye in a subsequent round, as they had not yet had a Bye, but were marked as Absent.
