Belgium has talent, history and strong clubs. What we lack is consistent, engaging digital communication that makes chess accessible to a broader audience mainly and especially younger players.
My goal for the coming year is simple:
to make Belgian chess more visible, more understandable and more attractive through structured and modern social media communication.
The primary platform will be Instagram, as it is currently the strongest medium for chess-related short-form content and youth engagement.
Content will mainly be in English, while maintaining a clear Belgian focus. This ensures international reach while promoting our national chess ecosystem. We will also upload dutch and french videos, we wont exclude this.
The main format will be short videos (15–60 seconds), as these formats consistently generate the highest engagement.
A. Belgian Chess Visibility
I want to highlight:
Top games will be presented in a dynamic and accessible way. Not as full technical analyses, but as visual stories that people actually watch until the end. The objective is to make Belgian chess easier to follow and more exciting to discover.
B. Chess News (National & International)
Chess news can be communicated clearly and attractively, even without being physically present at every tournament. The goal is to:
C. Micro-Education
Short educational segments:
These will not replace traditional training, but serve as accessible entry points for new and young players. The intention is to lower the barrier to chess understanding. This will also be usefull for the more international approach and not just Belgium
D. Interclub & Community Engagement
I would like to introduce a “Game of the Round” concept for interclubs:
This creates participation and motivation while increasing visibility for clubs. I am aware that engagement takes time to grow. The key is consistency.
To ensure continuity:
The objective is not isolated posts, but a structured communication model that can continue long term.
At the end of the working year, we evaluate based on:
The focus is on sustainable growth, not short-term viral moments.
Belgian chess has the substance. We now need to translate it into modern digital visibility.
With structured communication and consistent formats, I believe we can strengthen the public image of the Belgian Chess Federation and connect better with the next generation of players.
