Translator instructions

Maintaining a four-language website is resource intensive. In order to facilitate the maintenance, this website is equipped with a module that provides automated machine translations. However, these translations are not always perfect. The RBCF welcomes all volunteers who want to proofread translations and correct them where needed.

How to become a proofreader / translator

  1. register for a user account on this website
  2. reach out to steven.bellens@frbe-kbsb-ksb.be, and indicate what language(s) you can proofread (mother tongue preferred)

How to proofread / translate

After being assigned the translator role, you can simple navigate the website in your preferred language. In the languages you are assigned translator, a new link ‘Edit translation’ appears in the top admin bar. Click this link to go to the translation editor to edit the translation of that specific post or page.

In the translation editor, the machine translations are pre-filled. Various options are available to you:

  • Copy the text from the original language again to the translation
  • Translate the original text using machine translation (again)
  • Modify the text by hand

You can save each paragraph separately, and finally save the complete translation and return to the article. The screenshots below give you a visual impression of the admin bar and the translation editor. Click to enlarge.

You can make a test on your own with the translation of this page :).

Help, the ‘Edit translation’ link is not available?

There are two main reasons why the ‘Edit translation’ link is not available:

  1. you are not assigned translation rights to this specific language. E.g. you are assigned rights to translate to Dutch, but you are visiting the French version of the page. In this case you are not able to edit the (French) translation of the page. Navigate to the Dutch version to edit the Dutch translation
  2. the page content is originally written in your language! E.g. you are assigned rights to translate in Dutch, but the page is originally written in the Dutch language as well. In this case, no ‘Edit translation’ link is available. In case you notice spelling and/or grammar errors on such a page, please reach out through steven.bellens@frbe-kbsb-ksb.be.
