We are looking for additional volunteers to help support the Federations work on two topics: memberships and affiliations, and FIDE ELO processing.
We are currently in the process of designing and developping a new membership system. Our current system is outdated, fragmented and not compliant with modern security guidelines. We are partnering up with an integrator of the Odoo software suite.
In order to continue supporting the clubs, ligues and regional federations, we are looking for a volunteer who wants to contribute to support the current efforts, and help us migrate to a new, up-to-date membership system.
The Royal Belgian Chess Federation is actively promoting chess to all people on different levels. We are pursuing an increase of memberships to promote our fantastic sport further. A good membership system is vital to offer all our partners a seamless experience when joining the official chess community.
More and more clubs and tournament organizers are submitting their official games for FIDE ELO processing. With the upcoming proposed migration of our national ELO system, we foresee an even bigger workload in terms of tournament registrations and FIDE ELO report processing.
Next to this processing work, we plan on working on automation tools to facilitate and automate both processes as much as possible. So an interest in optimization and knowledge about programming languages is preferred.
The Belgian Chess community counts on the Federations services to progress official chess games for FIDE ELO. By facilitating the reporting process, we aim to give our users a seamless experience whilst building up their FIDE ELO.

I revisit FIDE’s recent rating changes and examine whether the Elo system still serves chess effectively. With data spanning March 2024 to June 2025, I show how global deflation, junior-driven volatility, and cross-federation mismatches expose systemic flaws. The system’s rigidity in a rapidly evolving chess landscape demands statistical modernization. Let’s unpack what the numbers reveal.

Earlier this year, the RBCF launched a call for participation to help evaluate and rethink our current membership model. In response, a group of volunteers stepped forward to form a dedicated working group, tasked with analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the current system and exploring possible improvements. With this post we give you a status update of this workgroup, and ask for feedback on several ideas.
